It was an amazing experience for me to participate in the workshop of “Collaboration and Coherence” which was offered by Civil Service Development Institute, Tainan City Government. Ms. Chu was the teacher of this class. I appreciated for her professional expressing ability and her enthusiasm of teaching also touched my mind. The trainees in this class concentrated on what Ms. Chu taught, because we all believed that the skills of collaboration and coherence were important for us. If we get the skills and use them, we can make good relationships with others and promote the performance of our work. These are the characteristics of a successful person. Therefore, I would like to say that to be a successful person is not difficult after this workshop.
You may want to know about what we have learned. I‘ll tell you as followings, and perhaps you can also get the knowledge and skills of collaboration and coherence.

We always think we don’t have the potential for success when we live in the same way day after day. In fact, this concept is not good for us, and we can transfer to another. We can develop our potential by competing with ourselves. Making progress a little bit day by day is a good method. Don’t be fear and just start it. It depends on our attitude whether we can make it or not. When we break through ourselves, we also stimulate for group potential. Not only we can make progress, but also we can increase the efficiency of our organizations. Don’t be limited by your thought or the environment. Keep going to develop our potential and then, we can establish the good habits. When you follow these rules, you will find success is not far away from you.

When we seek the secrets to the brains of celebrities, we find they can control their emotion very well. Emotion management is very important in our daily life because we contact with many people every day. If you can control your emotion and always see the bright side, everyone likes to make friends with you. If you always like to complain, no one wants to be your friends. Although it may be a little difficult at the beginning, taking more practice will improve this situation. Besides, we should be grateful to everyone. You may say “someone hurt me or deceived me and why I still have to be grateful to him or her.” When this thought is in your mind, you can think the opposite and choose your emotion which is good for you. You can be grateful to this person because he or she gave you the opportunity to be mature and increase your wisdom. The optimistic thoughts always help us to enhance our EQ management.

Interpersonal relationship is also an important factor for success. When we work with our colleagues, the interaction in groups and the process of completing our works are more valuable than the results. Therefore, we should learn how to respect and appreciate each other. We should admit everyone has his own strong points. When you appreciate your co-workers with sincere heart, you still create a good atmosphere in your office. “Everybody likes a compliment.” Abraham Lincoln observed. It’s a golden rule and we can try it to improve our human relations. On the other hand, we can be a compassionate listener. The elementary factor of compassion is concentrate. When someone is talking to you, you should pay attention to what he or she talks about. Smiling, having proper response and telling about what he or she really wants to say are always useful. All of the above can facilitate interpersonal relationship in groups.

Many people may have the experience that the performance of organization can’t be improved because of different opinions. Gathering group consensus can solve this problem. However, how to gather group consensus? Encouraging our group members to set the goals which are meaningful for them is a good method. There are some keys to setting the goals. A strong motivation is necessary in the initial and writing them down makes your goals clear. Then, analyzing, planning, scheduling, doing and checking are all the important steps. Setting the goals enriches our lives. You never feel boring when you devote yourself to reach them. But never forget to act continually. It makes you feel satisfied because of fully developing your abilities. Setting the goals of organization as part of the individual goals and you will find it isn’t difficult to gathering group consensus.

To sum up, developing potential, enhancing EQ management, facilitating interpersonal relationship, and gathering group consensus are all the skills of collaboration and coherence. They are critical to our works. We can use them to improve the performance of our organizations. All of us are civil servants and want to provide high quality services for the public. If we use these skills, we can reduce conflicts and give good impressions to the public. Besides, we will have good relations between colleagues. Respecting each other and making efforts to the goals will be the characteristics of our organizations. Everyone will devote themselves to work. As a result, the performance will be improved.
I would like to give thanks to Civil Service Development Institute, Tainan City Government to provide a good environment for us. The assistants in the Institute were friendly. They are very professional and always smile on their faces. I did enjoy this workshop very much and I hope I will have another opportunity to go there to learn.

For I am a supervisor in Tainan City Government Local Tax Bureau, I think I have the responsibility to use these skills which I have learned to help my team members to develop themselves. I believe everyone has the potential to succeed. It is not difficult to be a successful person. Now we know how to get it. Let’s try.
